No Food and Drink Policy
Due to excessive littering, spills and health and safety hazards there is a NO FOOD or DRINKS policy in all MPS facilities at any time. This rule applies to everyone: staff and students.
Your account may be suspended and you may be remotely logged out without warning if you ignore this policy. Visual checks are performed randomly by the MPS staff at regular intervals.
There are 3 notices provided in each room:
- Sign on the front door and/or on the noticeboard of every facility.
- Login warning.
- No Food or Drinks notice on every computer’s desktop wallpaper.
You are responsible for the table and computer or edit suite you are logged into, so allowing friends who sit with you to ignore this rule will affect you.
This policy was instituted due to complaints about rubbish, carpet and furniture stains, and damaged equipment due to drink spills. In addition, there are electrical appliances in the facilities and a spilled drink poses a serious threat of electrocution, fire or damage.
If your account is suspended you will not be able to login or hire any facility or equipment for at least 7 days. Historical records are kept of all account suspensions. Repeat offenders might be banned for an additional or indefinite period of time.
If you are seen using another student’s account while yours is suspended, their account will also be suspended, and you may be locked out for additional days.
Why is food and drink forbidden in the MPS facilities?
It is our responsibility as well as yours to create and maintain a safe and clean environment to work in. MPS facilities are for academic use and should only be used for this purpose. Even with this policy in place we have found that in the past, food waste and rubbish were left behind and around the equipment. In addition, drinks have been spilled and bottles sweet drinks have damaged the computers.
All of these things not only make our facilities unpleasant to work in, but also present serious health and safety hazards to the students and staff who use them.
We have this food and drink policy in place to protect you, and to offer users a safe, clean and pleasant atmosphere to work in. Drinks and other food items may only be kept in your closed bag.
