MPS’s busy radio studio will have its first major equipment upgrade in 20 years. Our radio technician Trevor Hails has been skilfully maintaining our old Soundcraft analogue mixer and managed to keep it alive and functioning well all this time. Unfortunately last year the equipment started to exhibit more faults and the cost of maintenance was going to spiral out of control. We managed to get additional funding from the University’s 2009/10 budget and after much research purchased a Sonifex S2 digital mixer. S2 is a new breed of radio broadcast mixer. Using the latest technology components, it offers digital audio quality with analogue ease-of-use in a modular format. We are working hard with the manufacturer to have it installed for Semester A 2010. The teaching staff and the students will see many advantages in the new set-up, most importantly the ease of use. MPS technicians will create preset configurations appropriate for the teaching needs and users will have a working setup at a press of a button.
